Re: Dark night of the soul. Amen. Where would we truly be without the privelege of suffering. I wouldn't trade my moments of anguish and despair for anything. The joy of experiencing God's presence and revelations during my times of darkness are what have sustained me and enabled me to share and be of comfort to others in need. I think we can all relate to your poem as well.

I am tempted to say....

THIS ONE IS SO OBVIOUS YOU DON'T STUDY IT
- - - YOU EITHER UNDERSTAND OR YOU DON'T.

But, our verse is really not even on the quote above. I left it off on purpose. To show the value of context.

The verse we were given reads as follows:

11"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays
down his life for the sheep."

This verse comes almost exactly in the middle of a passage that goes from talking about sheep and shepherds to a prediction of Christ's atoning death (and resurrection).

You really have to read the whole story, in order to let the spirit work with this idea...

The verse by itself is, like - yeah... I know... and off you go. But if you read the passage, the Spirit SPEAKS in a deeper way.

Today's Psalm is a good follow up to yesterdays! Psalm 102 shares a feeling of desperation. It ends with hope. Today's Psalm is full of praise and celebration!

Today, I was struck by the opening phrase....

I will praise you.... before the gods....

that part about "the gods" really jumped out at me.

There are other gods... Powers. Principalities. Spiritual beings advancing an agenda or protecting a stronghold. We should not be ignorant of these.

If we praise our 'BIG G' God before the 'little g' gods... then we are keeping things in right order!

Something to think about: It would be hard to have an accidental idol if you were telling that other power in your life about how God is over all! When you praise our GREAT GOD in the presence of these little 'gods', you quite naturally remind yourself of your priorities : )

One thing I do know is prayer changes things. I know from experience. I have prayed about a situation and gave it to God. I'm am a firm beleiver that you are supposed to let go and let God. God want his children to trust him. He just wants to know if you trust him. In Psalm 34:19 it says,'many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.' If you trust you trust him he will deliver you from every situation.

Well, today you get more of an emotional response than a "study".

This one is both inspiring, winsome, attractive and also - I confess, a little frustrating. I try to practice gratitude, but there are times I want to know where my blessing is. I shake my fist at heaven (Yes, I confess - I really do).

After all, I DO NOT:

walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.

I DO:

delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.

The promise then, is this:

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

OK Lord... I am Ready to receive your promise...

Now I know my looking to the heavens and complaining may sound out of line, but even David was known to have said:

How Long oh Lord will the wicked prosper, while the righteous go to the grave as dust...

(He even wrote it down for all time). So I will take my momentary angst and write it down.

Yet I, like David, can safely say - every time - after a little venting.... My joy is in the Lord who has saved me before and will save me again...

Perhaps this is what is meant by the words: IN SEASON : )

Studying means more than reading. It also means looking up related verses...

I found 2 Corinthians 4:15 (HCSB): "We do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal".

Can you find more about faith and the unseen ?
