Old Blogs?

UPDATE 9-3-08
It is finished. The old blogs are gone. Former blog owners were given 30 days to backup and move their blogs to our new service or any wordpress host. Once we opened the old blogs back up, the spammers went back to work and crashed the server. The old blogs have now been deleted. You are welcome to start over with our new service, which is an updated and more secure version of the old software - including a higher level of moderation regarding new blogs.
Forgetting what lies behind, we press onward toward the prize of our holy calling.

Your blog is not lost. At least not yet. The content can be accessed at your old blog address and moved to our new blog platform at www.e4God.com/freeblogs .

Our old blogs at www.e4God.com/blogs were closed due to blog spam and out of date blogging software that would not allow us to control the spam. There are NO NEW SIGNUPS and NO NEW BLOGS allowed there.
Your old blog is available to backup, but for only a few days at a time so the spammers don’t get to abuse our blogs or mail system.

HISTORY:
As a God honoring site, we had to close the old blogs when they were overrun by porn and drug spammers, etc. The abuse was too rampant and concerted for us to overcome. For a few days, we laid down our “web life” here as free Christian blog hosting providers in favor of purity and not giving the devil a foothold. All blogs were closed until the situation settled down.
In the interim, we started a new blog with WORDPRESS standard version instead of WORDPRESS MU. The blog you are reading now is our standard WORDPRESS blog. It is easier to maintain as far as keeping spammers out - but the downside is that it does not allow each member to register their very own own blog name, or create and customize their own theme.
Going Forward, former blog owners have two basic options.
OPTION ONE - GIVE UP YOUR ADDRESS - MOVE YOUR OLD CONTENT TO ANOTHER BLOG PROVIDER
Login to your old control panel, at the same web address you used to have for your old blog. In the control panel (SITE ADMIN) find a link for EXPORT or BACKUP. Save the resulting file to your computer. Later, you can upload this export to a fresh install of Wordpress, or another blog that can import a wordpress backup.
Any wordpress hosting provider will do, but some are better than others - faster, more reliable, won’t run objectionable ads on your blog… so do some research!
OPTION TWO - KEEP YOUR BLOG ADDRESS - MOVE TO OUR NEW WORDPRESS MU
We have installed a fresh version of Wordpress MU - the software that ran our old blogs - at www.e4God.com/freeblogs/. It is temporarily installed at a different web address - but that address will be changed to the same one you had before once the move is complete.
When this is all done, your blog will be at the same URL as before. If you have lots of links out there pointing to your old blog, this would be a good solution.
We are giving you a week to backup - then closing the old blogs, to shut down thousands of blog spammers.
The new installation would probably have a few dozen to a hundred or so of the best e4God.com blogs (instead of thousands of spam blogs) thus accomplishing our goal of purity.
The new site will be easier to maintain on a day to day basis, as far as eliminating spammers. We would not have to sort through 5000+ spam blogs nor look at all the smut to do it.
A volunteer staff of moderators will be asked to help prevent porn and drug site spammers from overrunning the new site.

HISTORY
Blog spam came to be a very big problem with pornographers and others overrunning our ability to keep the blogs focused on Christian topics. We had to close the blogs to stop abuse of our server and email accounts.
This is a one man ministry. With over 5000 blogs and 10,000 visitors a day, with as many as several hundred spam and porn blogs being created each day, some sending email to “bogus” subscribers, it was a big problem.
We had to die to our own desire to provide a free customizable blog to any Christian. We had to die to our own sense of how things should be so that we might live again in a more pure and holy mission. We regret the cost of this to those who spent many hours creating and writing on their old blogs.
Once things settle down, then access to the old blogs will be restored briefly on a once a week basis so that you can retrieve your content.
Fair Warning…. After 90 days, we may delete the old content entirely.

This is a new work. You can have a new blog. All persons of Good Will are welcome to start again with our new format.
